Hello world! Look how handsome I am.  :)

Early morning walk.

When you love someone… truly love them, friend or lover, you lay your heart open to them. You give them a part of yourself that you give to no one else, and you let them inside a part of you that only they can hurt—you literally hand them the razor with a map of where to cut deepest and most painfully on your heart and soul. And when they do strike, it’s crippling—like having your heart carved out. It leaves you naked and exposed, wondering what you did to make them want to hurt you so badly when all you did was love them. What is so wrong with you that no one can keep faith with you? That no one can love you? To have it happen once is bad enough… but to have it repeated? Who in their right mind would not be terrified of that?

Self Portrait #1.

Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.

We had to pick some sort of .. project for school. There weren’t really a whole lot of guidelines but they ran somewhere along the lines of build a website, set up a facebook group, do a 365 project, etc… just something that will take you over the next few months. I’ve decided (so far without my teachers real approval) that I’m going to do a self portrait series. This is completely aside from our mandatory self portrait assignment on the go right now too.  Instead of doing a 365 (one photo a day) I’m going to peg myself for doing about (at least) 1 photo a week.

This one doesn’t really count because we haven’t started. I just wanted to do it for fun. I know it seems like kind of a narcissistic thing to do and I would totally love to be able to photograph the same person every week for the next few months however my schedule prooves to be hard to work with and so are all my friends schedules. And who is with you at all times you ask? Yourself, of course. :)

I want to do something like this because lately I have been feeling so crappy about being a photographer. School has kind of drained all of my creativity. You have to do this. Shoot this. Make it looks like this. Don’t do this. And then sit through a class where you pick apart everyone’s work. Which yes, it totally part of the development process and a great way to help you improe. I just haven’t had a whole lot of inspiration lately and the best way to get through a drought is to just push right on through and do your own thing.

Hello 2012!

I hope everyone is having a great year so far! I’ve been doing some rebranding for myself lately and I finally thought that it was time to come up with a new logo. So here we are. It’s not as fancy as my last one, I know. The last one was really hard to work with at times and really, let’s be honest, I’m not the least bit fancy dancy at all. I like simple. I like clean. I like easy. :)

We already got a bunch of assignments at school and one of them is a self-portrait which I’m pretty excited for. I can’t wait to see what everyone in my class comes up with. In another class we have to come up with some sort of project and I was thinking of doing a self-portrait 365 (366 this year I guess!) type thing. Except I know that I won’t be able to take a portrait everyday so I’ll probalby do it a minimum of once a week and when I have time I’ll do more. Can’t wait to get started. It’s such a good excuse to get out shooting more. Which I definitely don’t do enough of at all.

Brenna & Jamie [ Wedding!]

The day before New Years I spent my day with these lovely people for Brenna and Jamie’s wedding. They got married in this gorgeous house. I just want to throw in there that this house is completely decked out in stuffed animals. I’m talking Taxidermy. There are a ton of birds. A coyote (or 2?). A turkey. A black bear. A deer. A lynx. It’s crazy! You can check out the house here.

Here are a few sneek peeks at the wedding photos. I hope you all had an awesome Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.  C :

Merry Christmas Brody!

He’s such a loved dog. <3

Inside Out Assignment.

This was the last assignment of the year. Definitely not my best work ever. I found this assignment super challenging. Especially with the lighting I chose. Basically we had to take a shot of something outside where someone could sit. Then we had to take a model into the studio and create the same lighting and have them sitting and then cut them out and post them into the first photo. I had a really hard time seeing as Scotty was sitting on the top of the chair so that I could get him all with the green screen on the background. And then for the life of me I couldn’t get the proper colouring on his hands. Or the shadows right. Like I said, no my best work. Here’s the two originals :

I had a fairly large soft box set up behind him trying to mimic the position of the sun. And there’s also a huge 3 bay garage just out of the frame that was kind of throwing light back onto the chair so I used a huge fill card to Scott’s right to mimic that. Little bit to much I think. Can’t win ‘em all, right? :)

That being said. Hello Christmas break and the next 20 days of absolutely nothing to do. Except to shoot a wedding on the 30th. And a friend’s newborn baby. And another friends little girl. And a portrait of my favourite soldier. But at least it’s stuff I want to be doing so yay. :) Happy holidays everyone!!!!

Recreation Assignment.

This is the latest assignment we’ve had in school. We had to pick out an ad, buy the product and recreate it the best we could. :) Please also excuse the content. I just like the simplicity of the ad. And the pretty box.

After doing the assignment it really makes me wonder how much of ads are real. We all know they photoshop the crap out of celebs and people, but they do it to prodcuts too. Lots of people in my class were talking about how their product was so different from what was in their ad. Just some food for thought. :)

Here’s the original  :

Dignified Dog.

This second photo here is what I came home to today. Sometimes it’s really hard having a puppy that has completely mastered the art of giving you Puppy Eyes. You try and be stern and discipline him… then 30 seconds later it’s like oh Goodness you’re so cute I’m sorry. We’re working on it.

It usually goes like this :

NSCC Showcase !

This is the poster I designed for the showcase my class is having next week. :) Come out and enjoy
